Ana Bárbara signs global music publishing agreement with Kobalt

 

Kobalt will manage the Mexican star's entire catalog as well as future recordings.

Mexican music star Ana Bárbara has signed a global publishing deal with Kobalt, Billboard can announce . The independent music publisher will manage the singer-songwriter’s entire catalog, plus future recordings. Ana Bárbara’s previous publishing company was Ingrooves Music Publishing.EXPLORE

The agreement comes on the heels of Ana Bárbara Reina Grupera's tour of the United States, celebrating her 30 years in music and countless hits such as “Me asusta pero me gusta,” “La trampa,” and “No lloraré,” which established her as a pillar on the Billboard charts .


“Ana Bárbara is an iconic composer whose continued contributions to Mexican music have paved the way for new generations of female artists and composers,” said Teresa Romo , Kobalt’s senior creative director for Latin America, in a statement. “Her musical legacy not only reflects her mastery on stage, but also her ability to connect with multiple generations, which has propelled Mexican music to become one of the fastest-growing musical genres in the world. We are thrilled that she has chosen Kobalt as the home for both her new music and her extensive catalog of songs.”

“Kobalt has built a solid reputation over the past two decades, championing its songwriters around the world,” added Ana Bárbara. “I am very excited to start working on my music with Teresa and the entire Kobalt team.”

Last year, Ana Bárbara — whose real name is Altagracia Ugalde Motta — became the first regional Mexican songwriter to receive a BMI Icon Award, the highest honor presented by the performing rights organization. As one of the most important female artists in regional Mexican music, a genre historically dominated by men, the singer-songwriter was honored in May with the Lifetime Achievement Award at Billboard’s 2024 Latin Women in Music Awards.

“Ana Bárbara is established as one of the most important and successful singer-songwriters in the Regional Mexican genre,” said Néstor Casonu , President of Kobalt Music Latin America. “We are delighted to collaborate with Ana and grateful for the trust she has given us to be her Publisher. With plans to expand her Reina Grupera tour dates in 2025 to Latin America, Ana Bárbara is also currently working on a greatest hits album scheduled for next year.
